The surprise launch at this years Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event at Mobile World Congress was definitely their 360-degree action cam, the Gear 360. While there’s no official launch date or pricing for Australia yet, Samsung is apparently launching the camera in several countries on April 29th. Samsung has taken the wraps of the Gear 360 and shown how to set it up and use, as well as some sample shots.
The setup is easy, take it out of the box, insert the battery and a microSD card then power it up, pair it with your phone and you’re ready to rock. The camera has a fairly simple scrolling interface for accessing the various camera modes like Photo/Video or Time Lapse, Video Looping, or even getting into the settings. Once that’s done it’s a matter of hitting the record button to take a shot or start a video.
As you can see from the video you can share shots on Facebook, or use a Gear VR or even your own phone to view the shots or video.
The 360-degree camera market is heating up here in Australia, 360Fly and the Ricoh Theta S are already here and the LG 360 Cam is about to launch. How the Samsung Gear 360 goes is anyones guess, but it will be interesting to check it out in person. If you want a better idea, you can read Chris’s hands on report from the launch right here.

Samsung has officially launched the Gear 360 in South Korea for KRW 399,300 (around $460AUD). No dates for the Australian launch as yet, but we’re hoping it’s soon.
