Sandisk has today announced a new range of USB type C drives have gone on-sale in Australia aimed at supporting the growing number of devices with the connector appearing on the market.
Available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB size options, the Ultra USB Type-C Flash drives offer a way to transfer data quickly between devices using the newer USB-C connectors. USB type C connectors have begun appearing on laptops, tablets and phones, with Android devices leading the way with a number of tablet and phone launches in the last 6 months.

We expect to see many new USB Type-C supported devices released in 2016. As more consumers purchase ultra-mobile PCs, smartphones and tablets that feature this new, more advanced USB standard, it is critical to offer a complete ecosystem of compatible products. New offerings, like our SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C Flash Drive, will give consumers the capabilities they’ve come to expect from traditional Type A ports, but with the added benefit of better performance.
The drives offer fast data transfer speeds with support for USB 3.1 which allows data transfer up to 150MB/s.
The Sandisk Ultra USB Type-C Flash drives have a retractable port to protect the USB-C connector when not in use, allowing it to be carried around easily and safely. Sandisk offers a 5-year warranty on the drives making them a good option when selecting a drive.
Sandisk drives use the SanDisk Memory Zone app for Android app to access data, with the app auto-launching when you connect the drive to a compatible device. The app allows fast and immediate access to the device’s contents while on the move, as well as easy file management.
While we’ve seen USB-C devices previously, the Sandisk Ultra USB Type-C Flash drives is the companies first dedicated USB for Type-C ready device. The single connector option isn’t as convenient as other options, but Sandisk does have a range of dual USB connector memory sticks and USB-C could be next.

Will Ausdroid be getting some samples from Sandisk for testing read/write speeds?
It’d be cool to have a list of usb-c drives, their read/write speeds and price by the end of the year to see which ones give the best bang-for-buck.
With less and less phones supporting MicroSDs, this may become a dominant way of storing/backing up large numbers of files whilst on the go.
