We are always keeping an eye on crowdfunding sites to see what’s new, crazy and trending. One trend we have noticed over the past months is the increase in campaigns for in-ear Bluetooth earphones. The dream of completely wireless earphones is something that is becoming more of a reality.
Unsurprisingly, many of these devices are focusing themselves on the fitness segment, here high performance, wireless and sweat resistant earphones are desirable. The latest campaign to catch our attention is the Axum wireless sports earbuds, the Axum has reached and exceeded their funding target within the first hour of launch.
This space is getting a little crowded (excuse the pun) so how are Axum differentiating themselves, firstly on audio quality and secondly on customisable fit to ensure your earbuds stay in your ear while you’re on the go.
Overall the Axum look to be a well-designed device and comes with the customary carrying/ charging case that will holds another 5 recharges of 4 hours of playback (that’s not bad). The device features:
- Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity
- Noise cancellation
- Media controls for Play/Pause, Skip song and Answer calling (no volume control)
- Voice calling with inbuilt mic
- Waterproof coating and silicone cases (not intended for submersion)
- 60mAh battery with 4 hours play time
- Customisable ear tips and jackets.
- Micro USB charging cable.

It’s always hard with crowd funding campaigns to know what you’ll get and when you’ll get it. That said this one did pass our sniff test, with prototypes of both the headphones and the charging case already made they are targeting a May 2017 delivery.
We’ve reached out to the creators to get a review unit when they are produced so we will check back with you once we’ve given them a go but that won’t be anytime soon. You can pick up the Axon for $149 USD – with is just under $200 AUD – with free international delivery.
