Action cameras are everywhere and the Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 Plus is the latest to hit the market, launching later this month for $699 with voice controls, GPS and support for 4K/30fps video capture.
The Virb 30 has all the features you could want in an action camera including 3-axis image stabilisation, a full colour LCD touchscreen, GPS and data tracking called G-Metrix, which can track how far, how high, and how fast you go on your adventures. It’s waterproof thanks to the complimentary waterproof case that comes with the camera – but don’t try that trick without the case.
At the launch of the Virb Ultra 30 this morning, Adam Howarth, General Manager, Garmin Australasia said
One of the best things about the VIRB Ultra 30 is how easy it is to use, you can actually tell the camera to start and stop recording. Whether you’re an action guru or novice, the ready-to-use VIRB Ultra 30 will simplify the way video is captured, edited and shared.
It’s those voice controls that are the real differentiator here, with truly hands-free options to issue commands to the camera. You can issue commands to start recording or even time-stamp it when something awesome happens you want to get to quickly later – ‘OK Garmin, remember that’.
The Virb Ultra 30 gets even more smart when paired with the Garmin VIRB app which is available in Google Play. The app lets you share your adventures to Faacebook or the Garmin Connect Share site or stream videos live to YouTube. The app also lets you control your camera from your phone or tablet with Wi-Fi controls to frame your shot, and then control the camera with full functions.
There’s an editing suite in the app lets you trim, add G-Metrix data to or adjust playback speed on the video with the camera able to capture footage at 720P resolution at 240fps. Or you can grab the desktop app to get more control of your videos to make them look even more awesome.
The camera will hit our shores this month for $699, if you’re into action sports and want to capture the data check it out on the Garmin website.
