The cresting wave of CES is about to break, and DJI is announcing their new gadgets with a second generation Osmo smartphone stabiliser announced.

The Osmo Mobile 2 retains the three-axis gimbal setup that made the original popular as one of the most stable gimbals available, but is made of ‘high-strength modified nylon’ instead of metal like the original – and it also makes it lighter. This different material has allowed DJI to save on some costs, with the new Osmo priced at a mere $129USD (that’s just $165AUD without Australia Tax).

The new design also includes a 1/4″ universal screw mount on the base, that allows you to use a standard tripod to really get the most out of your gimbal. There’s also a new zoom slider on the stabilisers handle to allow videographers to get the shot they want.

The Osmo Mobile 2 also gets better integrated settings in the DJI GO mobile app including access to ISO, shutter speed and more. There’s also support for Hyperlapse, Timelapse and Active Track:

ActiveTrack to automatically follow of subjects in motion, Motion Timelapse with up to five different camera positions, Hyperlapse to create dramatic time-lapse videos with the camera in motion.

With 15 hours of battery life, the Osmo Mobile 2 lasts up to 3x as long as the original, and a new USB port allows you to use the Osmo Mobile 2 as a battery bank for other devices while you’re using it.

The Osmo Mobile 2 will be going up for pre-order with Apple exclusively on January 23, before becoming available through store.dji.com in early February. It’s priced at $129USD but DJI has not announced international pricing as yet.

Update:DJI has announced the Australian pricing for the Osmo Mobile 2 is $209AUD.
