Ordo’s Sonic+ is a premium electric toothbrush which uses the same sonic-type technology as some other more well-known brands to better clean your teeth and remove the stuff that gets caught between them. It’s quite affordable as good quality electric toothbrushes go – at $99 – and its available from major retailers including JB HiFi, Myer and The Good Guys.

Put simply, the Sonic+ from Ordo uses sonic pulses to send water between your teeth and around your mouth. It moves up to 40,000 times per second and despite the soft bristles – so it won’t rip your mouth apart – it’s highly effective at removing just about everything from your teeth that shouldn’t be there.

Unlike some other electric toothbrushes, the Sonic+ from Ordo also features a relatively smaller head, making it easier to access all tooth surfaces, including those hard to reach rear molars. It would also be rather good for younger, smaller mouths, and those with braces too.

There’s few annoyances. For one, you need to keep the toothbrush relatively dry – not because of any risk of water ingress, it’s thoroughly waterproof, but more so you don’t get that typical buildup of gunk on the charging base. Speaking of which, the Ordo Sonic+ doesn’t come with a wall socket adaptor; it’s USB powered meaning you’ll need a wallwort somewhere to charge it, which is a little annoying. These typically aren’t things you want to keep in your bathroom near a basin.

There’s no Bluetooth connectivity, but I’m not entirely sure why you’d want or need this for a toothbrush. There’s also no travel case provided (in the $99 kit, at least) as is the case with some other electric toothbrushes… but that’s really not a necessity, and if you want it, you can pay a little extra and get the kit including the case.

In terms of operation, the Sonic+ is a fairly simple affair with a single button – you can turn it on, or off, and change cleaning modes (which ultimately just change the intensity or pattern of the sonic pulses).  It’s pleasantly weighted and balanced, making it easy and comfortable to use, and it feels like it does a pretty decent job of actually cleaning your teeth. The only somewhat questionable part – and this comes from the sonic pulse operation – is that if you remove the toothbrush from your mouth when you’re done without being careful, it’ll flick toothpaste and spittle everywhere.

Put simply, it’s a good idea to turn it off while it’s still in your mouth, then take it out to clean up.

That said, as with most electric brushes these days, the Sonic+ will buzz every 30 seconds to prompt you to move on to the next quadrant of your mouth, and after two minutes, it will shut off. You can, if you need, simply turn it back on as required.

Should you buy it? Sure – if you need or want an electric toothbrush that’s easy to use, effective and affordable, the Sonic+ from Ordo is squarely in that category. If you’re after something a bit more fancy, this mightn’t be the brush for you – there’s no Bluetooth or brushing feedback, but let’s face it, we shouldn’t really need this.

There’s other more expensive brushes around if you need that level of help to brush your teeth, but for most of us who can do a pretty decent job by ourselves, this electric toothbrush will give you the edge without holding your hand while you do it.
