Aldi has started releasing their catalogue in-stores and the latest catalogue shows a 10.1″ Android tablet with a 3G radio for $249. Available in stores from the 5th of June the tablet again comes from Bauhn, which again has details on their website.
This latest tablet in the line of Aldi ‘Special Buys’ from Bauhn eschews the relatively unknown Rockchip and Amlogic branded CPUs from previous models and instead opts for a Qualcomm CPU, albeit a lower end MSM8225Q Snapdragon CPU. The tablets 3G Radio also enables it to make calls and send SMS as well as use mobile data.
The Bauhn WL-101QGC includes some decent specs for a 10″ tablet at this price point :
- 10.1″ 1280 x 800 Resolution IPS Display
- QualComm MSM8225Q Quad Core 1.2Ghz
- 1GB DDR RAM
- 4 GB + 16GB Micro SD Card included
- 5.0MP Auto Focus Rear Camera and 0.3MP Front facing Camera
- WiFi: IEEE 802.11 b/g/n,Bluetooth: 3.0, GPS,
- 3G: WCDMA 850 / 2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900
- Android 4.1 Jellybean
- 6000mAh Li-Polymer Battery
Aldi offer a 60 Day money back guarantee as well as a 12 month warranty.
Aldi has sold 4 Bauhn tablets previously, three 10″ models and a 7″ model all of which have proven to be hard to find at, or soon after going on-sale, so they have a good history of sales with the brand.
Accessories
Aldi is also selling a couple of accessories related to the tablet, the first is a Tablet Accessory Pack. The pack includes a case, earphones, car charger and USB to DC Cable. The pack will sell for $19.99 and advises that the case is suitable for 10″ tablets and with the Bauhn 10.1″ Android Tablet.
Also on offer is a Bluetooth Speaker and Stand. The stand is designed to dock and charge any smart phone or tablet and allow music to play wirelessly up to 10 metres from the stand. A microUSB cable is included to connect Android devices and it will support iOS devices as well, however a cable for those devices is not included. The stand is on-sale for $29.99.
Lastly, a tablet makes for the perfect companion device for long car trips and on-sale is a Tablet Car Headrest Mount. The mount is universal and supports 7″ to 10″ devices including the Bauhn tablet. The mount connects to the headrest of the seat in front and has adjustable sliders to secure the device.
Great to see accessories being thought of again by Aldi and the inclusion of a more mainstream CPU from Bauhn is excellent. At this price the tablet will make for a perfect option to use in the car for road trips. Check out Aldi next Wednesday, when the tablet goes on-sale, check the Aldi website for opening hours.
Can i make phone calls from this tab? and can i use 3g in any other country with non australian sim cards?
Does this have access to Google Play?
It does indeed.
That’s not a good CPU or GPU.
It’s about the same as the Huewei G330D
Only really useful if you need the 3G built in.
only a 12 month warranty? that’s not even legal under ACL?
why isn’t that legal?
under Australian Consumer Law, products have an expected lifespan under which they are automatically covered
i agree with Daniel, i’m pretty sure that only covers if the device is provided under a 24 month contract, it would be good if that was the case
Yup .. the 24 month waranty only applies to purchases made in conjunction with a 24 month service contract. Since this tablet does not come with a service .. ie 3g internet its only required to have a 12 month warranty .. that being said is it worth it to save 150 bucks to get a tablet from a grocery store? I wouldn’t.
Are you referring to the ACCC edict that mobile vendors supply a 24 month warranty for the life of the contract?

If so, I don’t think this falls under that as it’s sold outright and not on contract. Happy to be corrected.
That’s the manufacturer’s warranty, which can be of any length of time and is provided in addition to the basic consumer rights guaranteed by the ACL. A manufacturer’s warranty has no bearing on the consumer guarantee the ACL provides.
