HP Slatebook x2 10
The HP ‘Detachable’ class Slatebook X2 is reportedly about to begin shipping to retailers with HP advising it should begin appearing in retailers in late July. HP has also confirmed that the Tegra 4 based device which is available in Snow White, will sell for a RRP of AUD $599. This would make the Slatebook X2 the first Tegra 4 based device to launch in Australia.

HP has released the specs for the device, retailers are still being confirmed at this stage

HP appear to be looking into alternatives to the Windows based systems they have been releasing for years and Android and indeed ChromeOS could be a good money spinner. With the ‘detachable’ class of device, HP are going head to head with Asus and their Transformer series, it will be interesting to see just how the X2 Slatebook fares.

$480 from USA for the 16GB
why is it so much more expensive here? I would end up getting one online.

onyong

Yeah I emailed too once I found that site. Not heard back though.

I want to know if its dual band wifi but cant seem to find any info to confirm this…

It seems that the Slatebook x2 is available for ordering now: http://www8.hp.com/au/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=5375413#!tab=models.

The page is the Australian HP website not the US so it could be that they are releasing it earlier here. I’ve send HP an e-mail asking them to confirm the availability date.

Daniel Tyson

Cheers, we’ll follow up with HP to see if they’re in-store yet or have a more firm date.

Had a look at the Slatebook in my local JB Hifi (WA). Not a bad device but a couple of things bugs me:
1. No auto brightness. Even with the brightness level cranked up, it still look pretty dark.
2. The glass they use on the screen is pretty thick compare with the Nexus 7. There seems a noticeable gap between the front glass and the display.

Having to say that, I’m still on the fence and will be having another look at it later on.

Hey Daniel, where did you hear that the Slatebook would be released in Australia? I’ve not found any other reports apart from this one advising its release in AU?

onyong

Why would it only support 32GB SD cards? Hopefully that can be increased with a firmware update.

Is it dual band wifi?

Altechi

Is it using Tegra 3 or 4 ?, I’ve been reading it is using a tegra 4

GreviousMcG

Yeah, it should be powered by Tegra 4 according to the official HP website (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/x2/slatebook-x2.html).

Methinks Dan has made a boo-boo.

I’m interest in this tablet and hoping for some good reviews. Otherwise the Toshiba Excite Pro (or Write) or the new Asus MeMo Pad FHD 10 will be competing for my money.

Indeed it was a BooBoo, I was on the way out the door to the Gym. Fixed now
