The wait is over, the Asus Chromebox is now available for order from Australian retailers. Both the i3 and Celeron versions of the Chromebox are available to order, with prices starting at $299 for the Celeron version and $575 for the i3 version.
The Celeron Chromebox is available from a variety of smaller Asus resellers, with no major retailers offering the Chromebox at this time. Currently you can purchase the Asus Chromebox M039U, which includes a Celeron 2955U, 2GB RAM and a 16G SSD from:
The Laptop Factory | $299 |
---|---|
I-Tech | $308 |
GreenboxIT | $324.28 |
PCMarket | $339 |
TechBuy | $339 |
The i3 version of the Asus Chromebox has also seemingly arrived, but is again only available from Asus resellers. The Asus Chromebox M041U comes with an Intel I3 processor, with 4GB RAM and a 16GB SSD, but looks like it has an option to purchase with or without a wireless mouse and keyboard.
No Keyboard/Mouse | Including Wireless Keyboard/Mouse | |
---|---|---|
GreenboxIT | $574.75 | $623.15 |
PCMarket | $599.00 | $649 |
TechBuy | $600.90 | $651.50 |
There’s free Australia wide shipping available from PCMarket, but GreenboxIT and TechBuy both offer paid shipping or you can of course pick them up from the store. We have one of the Asus M039U Celeron based Chromeboxes for review which should be up shortly, from all reports though it’s darned quick, so you can look forward to that.
I think the i3 Chromebox can output to 4K displays. I’d love to see some 2160p YouTube content running on a 4K display using the M041U.
You’re Kidding right?
I Just bought the Intel NUC with 4Gb Ram, and a 64Gb SSD for $280 including postage. And it has the built in infrared (for my XBMCbuntu).

Was on sale at the time, and postage was quick, ordered on a Saturday, received it Monday.
I agree. The price of the i3 sounds like a lot of money for not much.
