Chromebook owners looking to get a bit of local weather information are now able to with the release of the Aus Weather Chrome app onto the Chrome Webstore.
The Chrome Extension is itself an extension of the Aus Weather Android app which is available on Google Play, which sources data from the Bureau of Meteorology giving you much better data than other international services. The Chrome extension is currently in a testing phase, with the developer Benjamin Xing advising that ‘some parts may not yet be fully functional’.
While the developer may think it’s beta, it’s working really well for us here in our tests. The app is really easy to use and an absolute joy to navigate. There is a little bit of glitchiness going on with Auto-Location, but once you specify your location you get beautifully laid out cards with current weather, 7-day forecast and of course the all important Radar view.
The app is ready to go right now, so head over to the Chrome Web Store and grab it now. You may also want to check out Aus Weather on Android while you’re at it and head on over to the Beta group on Google+ to see what’s coming.
Looks like its ChromeOS only. Not compatible with Chrome on W8.1
Same in Chrome on OS X…. I don’t get why you’d have a chrome extension that only works on ChromeBooks?
The BOM is so much more useful than the international services, they will often tell me its raining when its a beautiful sunny day and vice versa
