Instant communications client Viber is moving across platform, announcing a new Chrome app for ChromeOS – best of all it supports HD calling on both phone and video calls.
The Chrome App which is available for ChromeOS users, is now available in the Chrome Web Store. Viber is used by more than 516 million people worldwide, providing the ability to make HD audio and video calls, text, as well as send photos and videos on Wi-Fi or 3G, and unlike WhatsApp – it’s Free, though I don’t know anyone who’s actually paid the 99c fee to WhatsApp yet.
As well as being an online instant messaging and communications tool, Viber can also be used to make calls to mobile and landline numbers – just check the call rates before you connect. Viber is a platform agnostic tool, with clients for PC (Mac and Windows – sorry, no Linux), as well a mobile platforms on Blackberry, Nokia, iOS and of course Android.
The feature list for the Viber for ChromeOS includes :
- Text with your friends
- Make free phone and video calls with HD sound quality
- Share photos, video messages, voice messages, locations, stickers and emoticons
- Create group messages with up to 100 participants
- Follow Public Chats – get on the inside with your favorite personalities; watch their conversations unfold in real-time, ‘like’ comments and share multi-media content
- Play games with Viber characters, Violet and Legcat. See how many coins you can earn
- Download stickers from the Sticker Market. Sort and reorder your stickers.
- Push notifications guarantee that you never miss a message or call, even when Viber is off
- Integration with native contact list for calls and messages
