In the wake of the Android Stagefright vulnerability announcement, major manufacturers, including Samsung announced monthly security updates would be forthcoming. Samsung has been fairly quiet on that front since their announcement, but has now launched a blog to detail what’s in the releases and which phones are receiving them.
The site is all business at the moment, it’s just a bare text site at the moment with no header images or ‘pretty bits’. Samsung has outlined the purpose of the site, saying the site will:
- Keep you informed on developing security issues,
- Provide information on recent Security Updates, and
- Serve as the main resource for Samsung Mobile security notifications.
The site provides updates on releases so far, as well as a way for people to report security issues to their mobile security email address, which also lists a link to Samsung’s public PGP encryption key.
Of course updates for devices provided through carriers will need to be tested by said carriers before deployment, but Samsung previously advised they would be working with carriers to expedite the process.

Good for Samsung. Every maker should do be doing this. Monthly, and where needed more often, security updates.
Regular security updates should be part of the deal in buying a phone. It should be an built in part of the service provided by the maker…. and Carriers shouldn’t get in the way of it.
