International PC maker Dell has apparently decided to discontinue their Android tablet business, which includes the insanely thin Venue 8 series, as well as other Venue branded tablets.
The decision to drop the line of Android tablets has been made due to an oversaturated Android tablet market said a Dell spokesperson in an email to PCWorld. The spokesperson said
The slate tablet market is over-saturated and is experiencing declining demand from consumers, so we’ve decided to discontinue the Android-based Venue tablet line,
The decision only affects the Android tablet line, with their Windows based tablet line set to continue. The Venue Pro line running Windows 10 offers a 2-in-1 experience with an attachable keyboard, which the spokesperson pointed out has been rising in popularity.
Dell’s history with Android devices began in the early days of Android by making the Dell Streak, which with a 5″ screen size, was considered at the time to be a monstrously large phone. The company introduced their Venue line of tablets more recently, but with limited opportunities to try them out before buying they obviously failed to make a mark.
While Dell will be supporting their existing Android Venue branded products with warranty and service, they will not be offering any future software updates for the devices, this presumably includes security updates.
Dell has removed the tablets from their website, so you can no longer purchase a Dell Venue branded Android tablet.
