We spotted two new tablets adorning Samsung’s Australian website today, the Galaxy Tab A (10.1″, WiFi) 2016 and Galaxy Tab A (7.0″, WiFi) 2016. The names are not all that awe inspiring and the tablets themselves are about the same. The Tab A line is Samsung’s affordable line with the two models coming in at $449.00 and $199.00 respectively, both models are showing as out of stock as we think this page may have gone up a little early.
The 10″ model looks to be a fairly capable device for the sub $500 price point offering Android 6.0, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The 7″ Model seems to be target at kids and offers 1.5GB RAM, Android 5.1 and only 8GB of internal storage, of with only 4.3GB of that user accessible. Both models include a Micros SD card but without adaptable storage, you’ll be limited in which apps can be offloaded to the SD card.

We’re not really expecting either of these devices to be in line for much in the way of ongoing updates, even security updates based on previous table update cycles, so if you’re not happy with them exactly as they are then perhaps you m,ay want to look else where. In the end, there are targeted at the affordable end of the market, it’s just a continuing shame that we can’t have affordable and secure Android hardware. All that said I would consider the 7″ model for my 4 year old, maybe.

I bought the Tab A6 T580 from the Goodguys on the weekend for my wife when they had the 20% off ebay sale so it’s no secret it’s been on the market for a while as I saw the same unit at JB HiFi. BTW you can overcome the adoptable storage issue.
We bought our son an inexpensive Android tablet with 8GB of storage and it is the biggest pain in the butt ever. I am forever removing some apps so we can load new ones, meanwhile some app updates are too big to be loaded at all. 32GB minimum for any device for me from now on.
Was hopeful for a 7″ tablet with mid range specs to replace my nexus 7 2013,but the resolution on that screen is too low 🙁 price point is amazing though.
Will keep on searching!
