After being announced in April, the detachable HP Chromebook X2 is heading to Australia this month, but it’s going to be expensive.
The HP Chromebook X2 is the first detachable Chromebook to launch. The innovative keyboard attachment offers several form factors including the option to detach the tablet portion entirely, use it in the clamshell laptop style form factor or flip the screen around into a tablet form-factor with the keyboard on the rear.
While not listed as ‘in-stock’ just yet, they appear to be an order only item from Australian Computer retailer EYO Technologies who have listed three models of the HP Chromebook X2. The three models include various hardware options ranging from a baseline Pentium model with 4GB of RAM to a model, through to a higher end model with an Intel i5 Kaby Lake processor and 8GB of RAM on-board:
- HP Chromebook x2 – 12.3″ 2K Touch, Pentium 4415Y, 4GB, 32GB eMMC, Wlan & BT Combo, Pen, 1Yr Rtb Warranty 5PY08PA – $1,079.13
- HP Chromebook x2 – 12.3″ 2K Touch, M3-7Y30, 8GB, 32GB eMMC, Wlan & BT Combo, Pen, 1Yr Rtb Warranty 5PY09PA – $1,164.29

There’s no listing for the HP Chromebook X2 on their Australian website at this stage, but we’ve reached out to HP to find out more information about Australian availability.
They are now available on the hp Australia website. 3 variants.
Any update on availability yet?
Ive recently done extensive research into chromebooksand if l had the money the benchmark device for me is the asus302 chromebook flip 12.5,,with the$so weak at present im waiting it out,and sticking with my asus flip c213 which you might also consider? Happy shopping!,
Acer R11 is great.
What’s a decent mid-tier Chromebook that I can buy in Australia? I need to upgrade my 2014 HP Chromebook 14. I’m looking for a Chromebook that runs Android apps. Budget is up to $500. Thoughts?
There’s loads of deals on the older model units around, but current range Acer and Asus are great quality. You can check their new gear out on their stores:
Acer: http://store.acer.com.au/acer/store/index.php/chromebook.html
Asus: http://shop.asus.com/store/asusau/en_AU/list/ThemeID.34023100/categoryID.69867800
One year warranty is disappointing. Might as well buy for the usa
But the Australian customs will slap on the ‘Harvey Norman’ tax.
Hopefully get a bit more availability here, looks a promising bit of kit but have heard horror stories from the US of people not being able to find stock anywhere
