Motorola Issue stagefright fix for Moto X 2013 and 2014 models

Security is a big deal these days and recently its been headline news for Android with the Samsung Keyboard scare and the Stagefright exploit. While the workaround to minimise your potential risk is easy as outlined in our initial article about the exploit, it took a little while for fixes to begin appearing. Motorola have updated their global portal with an update that includes a fix for the vulnerability, at this stage for the original Moto X (2013) and the second-gen Moto X (2014).

A number of other manufacturers have already issued updates for their devices; Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony and Motorola were quick to issue statements confirming they are working on patches, OTA updates were sent out to Nexus devices and even some carriers recognised the threat to be quite real with Telstra issuing statement on when users can expect updates for their devices purchased through the carrier.

The likelihood of being exposed is minimal, nearly all Android phones were (initially at least) at risk of this vulnerability. Given the nature of the exploit being quite complex, perhaps we have reached a point where simple attacks are unlikely forcing hackers to become more complex in their approach; minimising their chances of success.
