With Google having pushed the Android Marshmallow code to Google Source, Marshmallow is officially out. Both HTC and Motorola have made their announcements regarding which handsets would receive the update to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and now Sony has weighed in with their list of Xperia devices in line for the update.
As usual with any update, the rollout of Marshmallow will be a phased rollout based on country, as well operator testing. Sony has also qualified that though they’ve listed models here – ‘some operator/market exceptions will apply’. So, which handsets will get the update? Well, it appears the original Xperia Z and Z1 series are no longer supported, but newer handsets from the Z2 upwards are on the list. The complete list includes:
- Xperia Z5
- Xperia Z5 Compact
- Xperia Z5 Premium
- Xperia Z4 Tablet
- Xperia Z3+
- Xperia Z3
- Xperia Z3 Compact
- Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
- Xperia Z2
- Xperia Z2 Tablet
- Xperia M5
- Xperia C5 Ultra
- Xperia M4 Aqua
- Xperia C4
Sony has been working hard behind the scenes to update their internal code for these devices and assure us they are working as quickly as they can to deliver the update – which includes exciting new Sony features & functionality and improvements to the user experience. When updates will roll out Sony hasn’t announced but we’ll bring you more news as it happens.
Yeah i would have thought they would do it. it makes sense.the hardware isn’t that different
Considering the minor differences between the Z1 and Z2 series, you’d think they would have updated the Z1 series as well. I wouldn’t be happy if I had one, especially since they’re still fairly recent.
While Sony was slow to update its handsets to Lollipop, it has been great with providing 5.1 and 5.1.1. LG and HTC have left the G3 and M8 on 5.0, which was pretty ordinary, given the bugs. My Z3 is ready!
