Google’s high-end tablet that was announced alongside last years Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P phones has received a belated hardware teardown via the very excellent iFixit team overnight. The teardown is fairly comprehensive as usual, and end result is that if something goes wrong hardware wise you probably don’t want to repair the tablet or keyboard yourself.
The tablet and keyboard scored a combined 4 out of 10 for repairability with iFixit citing a number of reasons including the motherboard and battery for the tablet being glued to the rear case, with the battery using extra strong adhesive. The fused display has to be removed to access any of the internals which adds an extra dimension to repairs and again, there’s strong adhesive used here.
It’s not all bad news though, with iFixit finding that once you’re through the strong adhesive you can replace parts in the tablet easily due to the modular nature of components such as the USB-C port.
