Getting the iFixtit teardown treatment is almost a rite of passage for a smartphone these days, and Google’s latest devices have just had theirs. So how did the Pixels perform? The HTC-made device received a 6/10 for repairability. What does that mean? Read on to find out a bit more.
iFixit’s scores are based on a combination or how easy a device is to disassemble and reassemble as well as the repairability of specific components. The Pixel was awarded points for its modular components, making replacing specific parts easier, easily removable battery and use of standard screws.
However, due to the construction of the screen and OLED panel, they found that opening the device without smashing the OLED display inside difficult, this could seriously affect any home repairs you may be planning. Also, on the negative side, the rigid midframe was also secured with difficult to release ‘press-fit’ notches making it’s removal difficult.
