The latest Android Developer Dashboard statistics have been released and they show that Android 4.X.X is running on 7.1% of Android devices accessing the Google Play Store. This is a relatively sharp increase over the 2.9% of devices that were running Ice Cream Sandwich around a month ago.

The number of devices running Android 2.3.x “Gingerbread” has also risen slightly; up to 65% from 63.2%, so that’s good for those users coming from 2.1 or below.

I wish Google wouldn’t use the second decimal point in the version number for API changes. 2.3.1/2 is API level 9, 2.3.3 is API level 10, but they’re both “Gingerbread”. At least the latter should have been 2.4. Similarly 4.0.1/2 is API level 14, 4.0.3 is API level 15, the latter should have been bumped to 4.1. Less confusing that way, don’t you think?
