According to the French Newspaper LeFigaro the next Nexus is indeed from LG, will be called the Nexus 4 and will be announced on the 29th of October with the device hitting French carriers in December. The article re-affirms that the phone will be based on the specs for the LG Optimus G and references information from the Modaco post that Paul Obrien put up which puts the specs as a Quad Core Snapdragon S4 processor with 8MP Camera.
TheVerge has suggested that an announcement could possibly take place at the Dive Into Mobile conference that is happening at the The Ritz-Carlton in New York on the 29th of October which lines up with the rumoured end of the month announcement.
I can only hope that Google and LG intend to release the Nexus 4 for pre-order/sale via the Devices section of the Google Play store as they did with the Nexus 7, although hopefully they learned something from that launch about delivering orders on a first come, first serve basis. I also contend that the rumoured lower end specs would point to Google hopefully selling the Nexus 4 at a very competitive price but at this stage we’ll have to wait and see.
Hmm I’m very wary of LG phones. Hopefully this is good.
If this definitely happens, it’ll be a great thing for LG, it’ll have direct updates straight from google, so it’ll have heavy developer support. Maybe it’ll help LG in the long run.
Google/LG has a month to get the phone out after the announcement or else it will be another failed announcement/launch period. The Galaxy Nexus launch was terrible since it was announced many months earlier with no release date given and the hype completely died away.
Apple are the best being able to launch a week after the announcement and Samsung have made significant improvements with a launch 1 month after announcement.
It was the rumours which started many months earlier. The official announcement was on October 19, 2011 and it started selling on November 17, 2011.
