ZTE announced recently that they would be ceasing production of their previous flagship, the Axon 7. Today they have shown that the Axon 7 is not forgotten, announcing that they are readying Oreo for release onto the phone.

In a statement on their forums ZTE have announced that the positive feedback regarding the Axon 7 inspired them to develop Oreo for it. While it is not ready yet it should not be far away.

Dear ZTE customers,

We are announcing now that we are already developing android 8 for the Axon 7, your positive feedback has been inspiring us a lot and made us very happy and because of this we try to get it customer ready as soon as possible for the best customers in the world, and I ask for your understanding because we still need some time to perfect it.

We have reviewed this phone twice already this year, once with Marshmallow and once with Nougat. It is a great device with ZTE not messing with Android like other manufacturers do which no doubt makes it easier for them to update the software relatively easily.

The Axon 7 remains a great purchase for buyers looking for a stock Android experience in a package with some extremely good quality hardware at a low price.

Update: We have reached out to ZTE Australia for comment and look forward to testing an Axon 7 running Oreo soon. At this stage, there’s no timeframe for Android 8 Oreo for Australian Axon 7 users, but if this changes in future, we’ll let you know.

Hey, did ZTE Australia reply about Oreo ? On Facebook they are now saying there are no plans “from H/Q” for Oreo on the Axon 7 in Oz. Would it be odd to update USA, Europe and Asia but not Australia ?

Glad to hear they committed to the phone, hopefully they improve their design next flagship and offer something to compete with oneplus.
