When HMD Global took to the stage to announce Nokia’s comeback they promised quickly, seamless and timely updates to the operating system due to a stock Android experience. So far they have remained true to their word and are proving it today making Oreo available for all Nokia 8 customers in Australia after beginning to rollout to other countries a few weeks ago.

The Nokia 8 brings us Android as a pure expereince, unfettered by any manufacturer skins or changes to the UI. There is no bloatware or hidden apps that can degrade the experience and because of all this they can easily bring updates to their devices.

We’re proud to deliver our pure and secure take of Android 8.0 Oreo on the Nokia 8. We always want to give our fans the best possible Android experience. That’s why we’ve taken the time to test, optimise and refine the platform…….we’ve created a pure version of this highly anticipated mobile platform, delivering all the exciting new features with none of the unnecessary clutter. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global

Nokia 8 owners will now enjoy all the Oreo goodies including Picture-in-Picture mode and background activity limits along with their Dual-Sight mode which allows you to stream your reaction to events on social media in real time using both the front and back cameras.

The OTA should start rolling out to Nokia 8 devices in Australia from today so keep an eye out for that update notification. HMD Global have also said that Android 8.0 will also be coming to other Nokia smartphones “soon” so stay tuned if you own one of these other Nokia smartphones.

Starting to roll out? I bought my Nokia 8 three weeks ago and it updated to Oreo as soon as I put it on the charger…
