The Winter Olympic Games which kick off this week on Friday will see 92 nations competing in 102 over the course of the event which runs until the 25th of February in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The Seven Network is the official Olympic Games Broadcaster for the games and their app is now available in Google Play.

The app will contain all of the Seven Networks live coverage of the Olympic Winter Games, allowing you to access highlights on demand, as well as live content from the palm of your hand. The app is available for both mobile and tablets – and my Pixelbook as well. You can choose to watch the coverage on Channel 7, or their partner channel 7mate, or up to 8 additional channels including the Olympic News Channel.

There is a cost for the full package though with a $14.99 in-app purchase required to watch the games in HD and on multiple (up to 8) devices, but you do get less commercials so if you’re really into the Winter Olympics thats an option.

The app also gives you fast access to even results and schedules and you can track the live medal tally as well. Athlete bios are included to allow you to become the very best armchair expert that the games seem to turn us all into.

You will of course be charged data charges to stream the games to your device – unless you’re an Optus Post-Paid customer. In December, Optus announced that customers on the 24 month My Plan Plus, My Plan Flex, 12 month My Plan Plus SIM Only plans or 24 month My Mobile Broadband Plus $35 or above plan with Mobile TV Streaming included would get streaming from the Channel 7 coverage through the app for free.

The In-App Purchase is a bit distasteful, but Channel 7 isn’t a charity so they deserve to make some money from the coverage. You can of course get some of the free coverage but if you want the lot you’ll have to pay for it. If you want to get in on this action head over to Google Play and download the app today.
