We have heard that the LG V50 ThinQ 5G will be available in Korea from April 19. Samsung, ever the winner, will beat them to market with the launch of their first, and the world’s first, consumer 5G phone on April 5.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G model launching in Korea most likely will not be the model that we will be receiving here in Australia. The Korean model will be powered by an Exynos 9820 processor with an Exynos 5G modem onboard.

Here in Australia it is/was expected we will receive the Qualcomm SD855 chipset and X50 5G modem although that may prove to be wrong considering we already receive the Exynos processor Samsung phones rather than the Qualcomm versions.

The Galaxy S10 5G will feature a 6.7 inch Quad HD+ Curved Dynamic AMOLED display with an edge-to-edge screen and in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The 5G version of the S10 also upgrades the camera with a neural processing unit (NPU) included and a total six cameras (REAR: quad camera and FRONT: dual camera) onboard.

The battery to power the device that will no doubt be power-hungry will be a 4,500mAh in size and capable of charging at 25W. It will come with 8GB of RAM and be available in 256 and 512GB storage variations.

The Galaxy S10 5G will be available in Majestic Black, Royal Gold, Crown Silver in Korea from later this week and “will expand to additional markets after”.

At this stage it is unclear which version and which colours we will see here but you can be sure that Telstra will have several sitting on their testing bench as I sit here typing this. With the Exynos version ready to go now it would not surprise me if we received it in the next month or so.

Waiting eagerly for my S10 5G upgrade even though my area may not get 5G coverage. At least I get a handset capable of 5G along with a slightly larger display 🙂

I remember the first phones with separate 4G modems being huge battery hogs. I wonder how these first 5G phones with separate modems will do on battery… Hopefully we’ll be seeing 5G modems integrated in to the SoC soon.

I personally wouldn’t be buying any of these first 5G devices… but hey, I’m sure some people will just buy it for bragging rights.
