Back in October last year Google announced that Google Lens was coming to mobile search but wait, you say, I already have Google Lens on my phone. The difference here is that Lens will now be available via the image search results rather than running on your phone, in the search UI. The functionality originally rolled out in the USA and now it’s touched down on our shores.

To try out Lens on Mobile do a Google search for an image, say bikes, touch one of the image results and you will see a new Lens Icon in the image description box that pops up, tap that and Lens will search the image and surface results based on it. Lens will also tag different element of the image in case you wanted to zoom in on a specific element within that photo.

We’ve given the new feature a try and it works just as advertised on mobile and the Google app, at this stage you can’t use Lens on a desktop search for some reason.

I often use image search when looking for a specific type of picture and often get irritated that I can’t zero in on the specific part of the original image I’m searching for, so I’m hoping that Lens on Mobile search may just be a solution to that problem.
