When Google’s Pixel 3a and 3a XL were released and they made quite the splash. Reviews were very positive generally about delivering such a positive and snappy experience to users on a wallet friendly budget. Users got almost the same specs as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL with a few minor spec changes and material differences in the construction.

In their reporting call for the last Quarter, Alphabet confirmed that it’s been a very strong quarter. So strong in fact it’s almost 20% up on the same time last year, phenomenal numbers – particularly when you consider the scale that Google and Alphabet work on.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has noted that the sales compared to the same time last year is double the number of handsets. This shows a significant interest in not just the Google Pixel device range, but the fact that Google are offering a budget model. The Pixel 2 range was not a cheap offering, the Pixel 3 even less budget friendly – so the jump to offering a budget model phone and such massive growth surely has to highlight to Google a pathway forward.

Another factor to consider in this jump in sales is the carrier partnerships in a number of major regions. This opens the pathway to ownership for users who previously wouldn’t have even looked at the Pixel range.

Lets hope this has highlighted the want from users for a budget friendly, well specced option in the Pixel range that will continue when the Pixel 4 launches soon.

I just bought a Google Pixel 2 XL which was $50 cheaper than this phone.

Pixel 2 XL retailed for $1400. The 3A is destined for $350 in 18 months.

A real no brainier to skip the 3A and get the 2 XL IMO.

Yeah, totally. I really feel like lenovo/motorola should be taking over.

If the Z4 play was priced about the same
g7 plus: buying it would be a no brainer.

Unfortunately they charge almost twice as much just for a connection on the back… that allows people to spend a lot more money on cool moto accessories.

Charging more to give people the option of buying more doesn’t really make much sense.

Offering a better value for money or a cheaper / budget friendly product leads to increased sales?
