The successor to the Motorola Moto X has apparently shown up on benchmarking site GFXBench, giving us an insight into what could be announced later this ‘Summer’.
Motorola announced during a Q&A session held at Mobile World Congress (MWC) that they would be releasing an update to the Moto X in Summer (Our winter here in Australia). The use of the XT912 code is a little odd, given it was the original code for the Droid RAZR in the US, but this is the XT912A.
Anyway, the specs listed in GFXBench show that the updated Moto X, called the Moto X +1 according to @EvLeaks, will come with 5.2″ 1920 x 1080 display, 2.3-2.5GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB RAM, 32GB on-board storage (24GB available to the user).
There will be the usual assortment of sensors and connectivity, from WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC to accelerometer, barometer, compass, gyroscope, lightsensor, proximity and for the health conscious a pedometer.
Camera wise, the Moto X +1 will come with a 12MP rear camera, with Auto-Focus, Flash and built-in HDR. The front-facing camera will be a 2MP shooter. Both front and rear cameras will be capable of FHD (1920×1080) video recording.
The Moto X +1 will come with Android 4.4.3 continuing Motorola’s commitment to launch their phones with the latest software.
The biggest question for any phone launch with Motorola is — quite rightly — whether they will launch the phone only in their home market of the US or whether new owners Lenovo will insist on a worldwide launch strategy. With the Moto Maker customisation service still only available in the US, if a world-wide launch is on the cards, we will probably not see Moto-Maker customisation here in Australia.
Will you be looking at the Moto X +1 if it launches internationally?
I still think 24GB (usable) is still not good enough especially for us down here that don’t have access to inexpensive unlimited (or large amount of) data. Between photos and videos then trying to locally store good bitrate music, there needs to be large inbuilt or external options. I love the sound of the Moto X phone and its successor but for me, it just doesn’t cut it.

it comes down to physical size and price. I find my Nexus 5 perfect for me, so I might be able to use one slightly larger, and i may not miss the screen on one slightly smaller. So a slim bezel, 32 gb min, Moto x +1 with a decent camera and near stock software (in fact I’ve never used a X but it seems to be better in some areas) might be a nexus killer. The choice of 5.2inch is interesting, much larger than the original
Yeah it will be interesting to see if it manages to be anywhere near as good in the hand at that size. I have a Nexus 5 and I think that pushing much beyond a 5 inch screen really heads towards note/phablet territory and while I get the appeal that form factor is not for me.
Loved the look and features of the last device but they left if way too long to arrive in Australia. If they do a global launch for the sequel I’d be very tempted to pick one up. I’d like to see them go with changeable backs like with the Moto G as it would really soften the blow of not having access to Moto maker, I was looking at a Green and White flavor in the Moto X anyway.
Same. If it arrives before July I may just pick one up instead of the Z2.
