IFA is going to be massive this year, with launches from almost all the large Android OEMs, LG has already announced they will be bringing their L Fino and L Bello phones, but they’ve just announced the stylus toting LG G3 Stylus – which leaked earlier this month – will also be coming along for the ride.
The phone is a lower-end version of the LG G3, with the same visual stylings as its better specced older brother, but comes with the stylus which some users of the Samsung Galaxy Note products have raved about. The G3 Stylus is quite low-end with the hardware, coming with no LTE, low-end 1.3GHz quad-core processor and a much reduced resolution display than the full G3 coming with only qHD (960×540) resolution on the massive 5.5″ display.

Software wise, the G3 Stylus more than makes up for the missing hardware features, containing many of the flagship features of the much higher end and more expensive G3. As well as coming with the same version of Android as other recent LG phone releases – Android 4.4.2 – the G3 Stylus will include
- QuickMemo+ combines Quickmemo, Memo and Notebook apps for simple content capture and sharing.
- Dual Window divides the expansive screen into two separate windows for easy and effective multitasking.
- Smart Keyboard intuitively adjusts to users’ typing patterns for faster input with fewer mistakes, reducing errors by up to 75 percent.
- Touch & Shoot lets users simply touch anywhere on the display to focus and shoot, reducing a two-step process to just one.
- Gesture Shot allows users to take easy selfies by simply opening and closing one’s hand in front of the lens to start a three-second countdown before the shutter is triggered.
- Knock CodeTM unlocks the device in one easy step with a personalized “knock” pattern for both convenience and security.
Whether we see the LG G3 Stylus here in Australia or not is the big question. In theory the G3 Stylus will replace the existing stylus driven Optimus Vu series phones which LG advised would not be coming to Australia. There’s also the fact that the G3 Stylus does not come with LTE, something most of the Australian carriers are demanding these days. LG will be concentrating on 3G markets, starting in September with Brazil, followed by launches in Asia, Middle East and Africa and CIS. We’ll soon know more, with the phone coming to IFA next week.
