Huawei has had a long and proud history as a sponsor of the Tour de Cure, an organisation which aims to raise awareness and funds to cure cancer. Huawei has also been a major sponsor of the Canberra Raiders NRL team for a long time, now they’re leveraging both partnerships to give Raiders fans – or indeed anyone who wants to bid a chance to win a trip to China, by supporting the Tour De Cure.
Huawei Australia as well as the Raiders, are offering a trip to Shanghai by supporting Tour de Cure Australia, by auctioning off the chance to back one of four Canberra Raiders players racing in a ‘Raiders pursuit race’ at halftime of the Raiders v Bulldogs match at GIO Stadium Canberra on Sunday.
The three lap pursuit will see Josh McCrone, Bill Tupou, Jeremy Hawkins and Luke Page compete, while the backers cheer them on, with all money raised going to Tour de Cure. The auction is being run on allbids.com.au, with Jeremy Hawkins the hot favourite, with bidding currently up to $550.
Jeremy Mitchell, Director of Corporate & Public Affairs for Huawei spoke about this exciting new way of raising funds, which also promotes the work that Tour de Cure do for Cancer research :
Tour de Cure is about riding to raise awareness and funds to cure cancer for all. Riding a bike has been chosen as a vehicle to cure cancer as it promotes a healthy lifestyle which is key for preventing cancer and what a better way to do so then by seeing four Raiders stars racing around the ground on Sunday. All proceeds from the auction in the lead up to the race will go to Tour de Cure, who continues to strive towards breakthroughs in finding a cure for cancer.
The idea is a great one to raise funds for a worthy cause and bids can be made for the services of each player until 12.00pm on Saturday (May 23). To check out the auction head over to allbids to check out the action, and if you’re in Canberra on Sunday, then check out the action at half time at GIO stadium.
