As we all well know from our national anthem, Australia is girt by sea, and the pervasive beach culture is ingrained in the Australian psyche and way of life. Google has partnered with members of the XL Catlin Seaview Survey team to supply 360° photo-spheres of 20 reefs across the Philippines, Indonesia, the Solomon Islands, the Cook Islands, Australia, American Samoa and more.

The inclusion is part of the lead-up to World Oceans Day on June 8th, but the underwater imagery is live now.

To capture all the images, the team used a 60Kg SVII camera system which captures the full 360° image, the camera is attached to a sea scooter to cover a range of up to 2km, with the resulting Photo-spheres added to Google Maps using the Street View technology.

There’s a load of great locations included to explore under the oceans, with animals and reefs looking vibrant and peaceful, so check it out.
