Google’s Device Assist app, which offers tips and proactive help with issues on Nexus and Android One handsets has received an update today with a few new features, but the headline feature is that it’s now available in more countries including Australia.
The Device Assist app will analyse your phone or tablet when you first load up the app, offering a cheery ‘Looking Good’ if there’s no issues detected. You can swipe to the left to access the list of tips on offer, or access the settings menu to get more information on your device, check the log, see archived cards or send feedback.
After todays update compatibility hasn’t changed with the app still only available to Nexus and Android One devices, although GPE devices are no longer mentioned. The app is only available to devices running Android 5.0 or greater, but that’s largely the lions share of Nexus and Android One devices now. There’s a few new features included in the update – as well as the expanded availability. The What’s New section expands the complete list of features which includes :
*Brand new tips and detected issues content
*Rich media for more engaging tips
*Ability to identify new, unread tips
*App and live support offered in more countries
The headline feature of Device Assist is the ability request a callback from a Google team member, to resolve your issue. The call apparently will come throuh hangouts and the team member will attempt to assist you with any issues with your device.
If you’re in possession of an Android One or a Nexus device you can head over to Google Play now and install the app and if necessary get Google to call you with some help. Let us know how it goes.
