The Nexus 6P is going to be winging its way to lucky customers early next week, or at the very least will be available in stores from Tuesday. The phone isn’t cheap, starting at $899 for the 32GB model, and as with any phone launch someone is always going to want to stress test them. It’s the Nexus 6P’s turn and what Zack from YouTube channel ‘JerryRigEverything’ does to his Nexus 6P is extreme.
The tests that the Nexus 6P is put through involve scratch tests and burn tests, with the scratch tests being applied to the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front of the phone using tools with tips from the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, and after that’s finished he starts on the back. The screen is also subjected to a burn test involving the application of heat from a Bic disposable lighter. Finally, if you remember ‘Bendgate’ from the iPhone 6, the last test will just about make you sick.
We hope you don’t try this at home, because nothing in this video is covered under any sort of warranty. So, if you want to see what happens when you put a phone through the extremes, then take a look.
This is it. I am keeping my NEXUS 5 untill a new phone, capable of withstanding hammer, power drill, fire for at least 15 minutes, deflects a bullet (life saver), floats in water and repels a jealous wife, hits the market.
This test is rigged. The front glass is an important structural component of the individual phone. By scratching the phone and burning the glass, the integrity is compromised. Best example is the windshield and rear glass of a car. Both are part of the structural integrity of any auto. See the tests done on a new, uncompromised N6P and reported by Central Android. As an after thought, I don’t understand why any one would test a cell phone as a machine shop tool or a deadly weapon? It is neither.
Wait… the glass is cracked, the phone has been heated (melted internally?) and it bends? Nah! that wouldn’t affect the bending would it now?
Did you notice that the phone broke close to one end and not in the middle? The middle is the week point, not the end. That is basic physics. Furthermore, the heat, generated by the flame most likely melted some of the glue in addition of destroying the integrity of the glass.
I think any phone is going to break if you try to break it.
Yes, of course if you use a hammer or a power drill. It is not clear what these yoyos are trying to do. For sure, a cell phone has never been characterized as a deadly weapon.
.
A lot of counter videos to this out now all saying otherwise. Reddit has a couple of threads confirming its not true and likely a preproduction model or some thing
Android Central in their review said: “I might have tried to bend it, because I do stupid things to phones that are review units. All I can say is that it doesn’t bend easily. Now stop talking about bending phones.”
So case and glass screen protector are definitely required then!
No offense to reviewers but I would have thought they wouldn’t be the most careful people with a different phone every week. If you could bend/break a phone in day to day use, I would have thought that we would have heard about it, don’t you think?
Just a thought.
You make no sense.
aaargh that hurt to watch! So the lesson learned is, dont treat your expensive new phone like an industrial tool.
Would be more interested to see the bend test on a brand new phone not on one he has already broken.
That crack wouldn’t have made much of a difference.
Not great that it didn’t survive these tests, but I question the efficacy of it in the first place.
The idea that this is representative of real world conditions is comical.
Exactly. Somehow you’re putting a diamond into your pocket and your 6P is scratched by it. And your lighter in you pocket is somehow mis-triggered and burnt white dots onto the screen. This is just too absurd to be true.
Diamond rings ? The video doesn’t really worry me until the bend test. That part made me cringe.
probably the integrity of the front glass isn’t that well, considering a little pressure cracks it
Well… Don’t put it in your back pocket.
OMG if you’re not satisfied with your 6P then please give it to me!!!
