The final handset in Sony’s Xperia Z5 lineup is now available, with the Xperia Z5 Premium going on sale today at an RRP of $1,199 through JB Hi-Fi and Sony stores and kiosks around Australia.
The Xperia Z5 Premium has “premium” right there in its name, and doesn’t shy away from it. While the shiny Chrome edition of the phone is perhaps the best known version, and certainly looks the part of “premium”, if that’s not your style Sony’s also offering a Gold version and a more traditional Black.
Sony wants everyone to know the Z5 Premium is the world’s first 4K smartphone, with amazing levels of depth and clarity on offer for media playback. Based on the units we saw at IFA, 4K media playback on this phone is pretty amazing – it was like looking into a portal where everything was higher resolution than real life.
The phone’s large 5.5-inch 4K display also makes the phone’s body larger, which in turn affords a larger battery within the body of the phone – 3430mAh, to help get you through the day.
Otherwise, the specs are much the same – a Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage and an SD card slot all housed within the unmistakeable shiny chrome body. It also features the same waterproof and dustproof standards, and Sony’s new 23MP f/2.0 camera as the standard and Compact editions of the Xperia Z5, and ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.
You can pick up the Xperia Z5 Premium starting today at JB Hi-fi in Chrome, while Sony Kiosks and Sony Centre stores will offer the phone in all 3 colours (Chrome, Gold and Black).
Note: Previous launch advice on the Xperia Z5 Premium included mention of Dick Smith Electronics, but at this stage the retailer no longer appears to be involved in the launch of the handset.
Just noticed that JB is selling it for $895
