The latest high-end phone from OnePlus is turning heads, the OnePlus 3 has been well received and reviewed. After failing to hit the mark with the OnePlus 2, it’s great to see the company deliver a phone worthy of half of their hyperbole.
Despite OnePlus not courting, or even paying attention to, the Australian Market, Aussie Android enthusiasts are still interested in the device. In fact if your interest in our OnePlus coverage is any indication Australian Android Fans are very interested in the OnePlus 3.
The big question? Did interest turn into purchases for any of you? We outlined the various models and how they would work with our LTE bands so we’re interested to know if you jumped in and if you did how are you finding the LTE reception?
If you’ve got a OnePlus 3 then weight in the comments with your experience, which carrier you’re with and how you’ve found the reception.
Help out other Android readers considering a OnePlus 3 and share what you know. Please 🙂
I bought the US version direct from OnePlus. Running it with Optus in Melbourne (LTE majority of the time) and Adelaide (mostly 3G, some LTE).
I also have a US OnePlus 2 on Telstra, used it Australia wide no-issues.
Hi Tom!
I am looking at doing the exact same thing as you. All of these articles I have been reading have got me a bit spooked, particularly abou tthe American version. I can live with no 4G in some places, how are your impressions now? If you say the phone works well i will go for it!
Thanks in advance mate
No issues at all. I’ve gotten LTE almost everywhere in Melbourne, inner city and outer. I live an hour from CBD and get LTE there also.
Legend! I live close to the city in Melbourne, Can’t wait to get it!
hey just wanted to know how you got them to send it aus
got one A3000 from China, works well with vodafone, basically feels the same as my iPhone 6s.
Thanks Hongfei, what areas do you frequent, you must be luck to be near Band 3 and not 5 towers, have you noticed if you’ve got a constant 4G connection?
The 4G connection is pretty solid both outdoor and indoor. I only tested those band 3 connections near my home, which is covered by B3, but for B5 I think it also works well cause I hardly notice any signal drop outdoor, except at some of the underground parking places
I be don’t think the Chinese model has band 5
no body cares about carrier aggregations specs on any of the Oneplus 3 variants ? Come on, really? Thought there will be some power users here…
Got mine from Spemall, however had a Oneplus X shipped from Eglobaldigiralcameras before and they have both been great
Which Variant, which carrier? what areas are you frequenting? Do yo u have constant 4G connection? Thanks
A3000. Like I said, Optus and telstra. Mainly the gold coast however have used it in and around Toowoomba and it held as good a connection as my S7. I have a near constant 4g connection on the Gold Coast. It has only dropped to 3g once while in a basement carport with telstra and was still better than my work phone (iPhone 6 with optus, lost signal)
Got mine last week from China. Have used it with Telstra and Optus and have really not noticed any dropouts at all, it seems to get as good coverage as my S7 Edge. Love the phone too, I have no idea why they don’t cater to the australian market. It’s not like it would be difficult, Oneplus is owned by Oppo who distributes through JB-HIFI. Oneplus 3 also uses the Dash charger which is basically an Oppo VOOC charger with the Oneplus logo on it so they would theoretically be able to rebadge the Australian socketed versions of the VOOC… Read more »
Well, the problem is we’re *not* a big market. We’re a tiny market…
Australia: ~23m
UK: ~64m
USA: ~318m
China: 1.37b
A tiny, tiny market 🙁
Unfortunately true, we’re smaller than or the same size as many US states.
Yes but Oneplus is owned by Oppo and that have started selling here. Wouldn’t be too hard and I’ll bet they’re considering it. Only thing is Oneplus seems to only really have one phone released at a time and it’s a Flagship whereas Oppo has several competing with low-range, mid and high end smartphones all at once
Oppo and OnePlus definitely keep arms length from each other, regardless of the basis of their funding.
Where did you buy it from?
Spemall mate. Shipped it within two days and it arrived two days after that. Eglobaldigitalcameras is just as good too.
I’m on Optus, and I got a OnePlus 3 A3000 (Asia/Aus), and in Frankston it supports full LTE perfectly, and with my OnePlus 2 (with the same bands) I had LTE fine also in the city, and Phillip island, indicating it works just fine.
Thanks Oscar, do you ever notice a drop out in 4G connectivity?
Nope – works fine – I am going into Melbourne CBD today though so I’ll let you know if, as expected, it works fine 🙂
Yep, went to the city and as expected the phone worked great – full 4G and LTE
Thanks Oscar
I bought one from the UK (A3003) model, will be here on Friday/Monday will report back (Optus)
Thanks Christian, Let us know how you go. Hit us up at http://ausdroid.net/tip-us/ or on social
which site did you buy off from? cheers
Straight from OnePlus, but had it forwarded through my work.
cool! which forwarding service did you use, guess thats UK to AUS right
I used my work as forwarding service 🙂 Intercompany transfer
lol good for you, working at DHL by any chance.,
Is anyone from Ausdroid getting hold of one? Scott perhaps?
Nope. No interest from OnePlus in getting a review unit to us as they have no official sales here in Australia.
That’s a shame. Oh well
Had a Oneplus – it was good but buggy.
Looked at Oneplus 2 – they settled badly
Oneplus 3 – NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE!
Why
I’d be interested, but if OnePlus has no interest in working with Australian partners it just doesn’t seem worth while. Shame, I would have like to give it a go, looks like OnePlus’s first sucess.
If Voda users get the Euro version, seems all their LTE bands will be covered. LTE B3, B5. but seems no one cares about carrier aggregations with not many manufactures list that info on their product spec page, which is always a let down.
for me, its either you care about the bands as well as the CA combinations or just not care about all these at all..
I noticed you didn’t post my previous comment. Are we not allowed to post links?
No. Disqus stops them automatically. It’s not a case of us not posting.
In summary you can get $20 off from Oppomart using code: OP320F

I have one coming. From China and will let you guys know how it goes one Telstra.
That would be great Rob, we’ve had this exact question from other readers.
Hey Rob, I’m very interested to see how you go on Telstra and where you bought it from. Eglobaldigital and DWI have them too but the eglobal one is flashed with oxygen and I’m not sure about the DWI one.
I’m definitely interested in this, also which channel would be most reliable to buy from. OPPOMart looks to be good but reviews tend to be mixed
Hey Gary, once we get some people to share their experience of the different SKUs on different networks we may be able to answer that, as always Grey imports carry some risk.
