Alcatel is the Chinese brand that’s big everywhere except China, and their focus market in Australia, at least, is those segments which can’t or don’t want to spend $1,000 on a smartphone, but still want quality features. That’s where the Alcatel Pop 4 fits; it’s priced at just $119 on a new deal with Optus, but it has some pretty sweet features for a budget phone.

Alcatel also told us a bit about its plans for the Idol 4S which it showcased back in February at MWC 2016. The company is in talks with potential carrier and MVNO partners, but if those plans don’t come to fruition, Alcatel’s MD Sam Skontos says that they’ll go it alone with retail channels and direct sales online via an Alcatel online store.

Expected pricing is around $399 for the Idol 4, and $599 for the Idol 4S. We have one of the latter phones on the review bench, and we’ll be telling you more about it soon ahead of the retail availability sometime in September 2016.

Nice job Chris, I guess the Idol 4S is an alternative to the OP3 and it should have all the Aussie LTE bands hopefully. I just hope they don’t make it a Dodo exclusive again like they did with the Idol 3
