According to Sony in Slovakia, the company will begin their rollout of Android 7.0, Google’s latest version of the operating system next month with two of their most recent handsets first in line.
The Xperia XZ which was unveiled running Marshmallow earlier this month at IFA, as well as the now older Xperia X Performance which was announced back at Mobile World Congress will be the first handsets to receive the update. According to Sony they will both receive their Nougat update starting next month in October, with the Xperia X and X Compact following the month after in November.
Sony has announced Nougat will also be coming for a range of Xperia handsets and tablets including the Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5 series (Compact, Premium and Standard), as well as the Xperia X, XA, XA Ultra. That’s right, older Xperia Z series owners will not be seeing Nougat…at least officially.
Of course any updates to these devices will require carrier testing if you got your device from one of them – if you buy at retail you don’t have that issues – so you’ll have to wait a while. Of course Sony Australia has not yet announced availability for the Xperia XZ here in Australia as yet though their launch did advise it would be going global in October so there’s still time to see it launch here with Nougat pre-installed.
