We’re here in Sydney at Google’s #MadeByGoogle launch event for the Pixel and Pixel XL phones, and we thought we’d do a quick introduction to what we’ve seen. Jason’s the more photogenic of us at 5am, so he’s up on the video.

So, Google us charging AU$1419 for the XL 128gb which is roughly $1080 if you convert to USD. If you go to the US store, it’s $869. Australia tax? Why do we get overcharged by so much just because we live in Australia?
In a nushell; Logistics, smaller market, certifications.
It costs them money to bring it here, to certify it just for our market, and to support it in Australia. Because we’re only max 25m people, there’s less likelihood they’ll actually make those costs back if they charged a direct conversion plus GST.
Thats just in a nutshell. And yes, it’s a hard nut to swallow.
But almost $300 extra? If this was another product, it would be called a rort.
