Telstra has added a new phone to their smartphone lineup with the ZTE built, Telstra re-branded 4GX Smart now available for $69.
For the observant among you, the phone may look a little familiar and you’d be correct with Optus already launching the same handset under the 4G ZTE Zip name as a pre-paid phone on their network for $49 back in May.
There’s no real changes in hardware on the phone, with a similar spec sheet as we’ve seen previously though you can now purchase the phone in White as well as black. The phone does now come with the Telstra 24/7 app baked in instead of the MyOptus app, but apart from that it looks the same. Hardware wise, you get what you pay for:
- 4″ TFT, WVGA Display (480 x 800)
- 1.0GHz MTK Quad Core CPU
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB ROM with approx 4GB user space available, expandable to 32GB via microSD
- 5MP Rear Camera, 2MP front facing
- Bluetooth 2.1, FM Radio
- Network Connectivity:
- 2G: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
- 3G: 850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz
- 4G: 700, 850, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600 MHz
- 1600 mAh Li-ion user-replaceable Battery
- Android 6.0 Marshmallow
The ZTE Zip launched on Optus with Android 5.1, though Telstra’s website is claiming the 4GX Smart will come with Android 6.0. Whether it sees an update beyond that is unknown, and probably unlikely, but at $69 the phone can access the Telstra 4GX network, so there’s that.
It’s available now from Telstra with free delivery if you buy online, so head over to the Telstra website to check it out.
