optus-x-sleek

Optus has today launched a new line of Optus branded X devices, with the X Sleek taking the honour of being the first device in the line up. The device is $149 outright or $7.25 per fortnight for 8 weeks (4 fortnights)

What do you get for your $149.00? The device looks very similar to the Alcatel Shine Lite (read identical). For this, you’ll get a 5″ HD (720p) device with an unnamed quad-core 1.3 GHz processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of system storage. It includes MicroSD support up to 128GB and ships with Android 6.0 out of the box.

For a sub $200 device that is actually a fairly impressive list of specs, over 9GB of user accessible storage, MicroSD card expandability, metal and glass construction and a fingerprint sensor along with Android 6.0 out of the box is an interesting value proposition. Of course, there are as many questions, how will the camera perform, how responsive is the device, will it get ongoing security updates?

With a 2 year warranty from Optus this is a phone we think needs to be taken seriously, we’ve reached out to Optus in the hope of getting a review device. It’s easy to get a great Android phone near $1000, could this be a great device for $200?

What do you think of the Optus X Sleek?

Does the battery in Optus X Sleek have memory or can it be recharged at any percentage of power left.
