xperia-nougat

Sony announced on their blog that – starting today – Sony Xperia XZ and X Performance owners should start to see an update to Android 7.0 Nougat rollout. As of the time writing, I was 957 MB through a just over a GB update on my Australia Xperia XZ.

If you’ve got another Sony Xperia device and were hoping for some 7.0 love don’t despair Sony have confirmed that Nougat will be coming to Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Compact.

What can you expect for Sonys update?

According to their blog posts some of the neat new features include:

  • Multi-window support – multitasking made easy; run two apps simultaneously and double tap to switch between each
  • Longer battery life – do more for longer, with improved battery life powered by Google & Sony Xperia
  • Messaging – more ways to tell your story with our latest Messaging app, enabling you to share videos and audio with a few taps
  • Manual camera settings control – all-new manual focus and shutter speed controls, now available for Xperia X Performance
  • Home screen – a smarter and more personal Xperia home screen, with Google Now integration

We’ll be checking out the Sony Nougat update over the coming days and will let you know if we find anything notable. I for one am interested in seeing their Google Now integration on their home screen, if Sony can do it then so could 3rd party launchers such as Nova Launcher.

And Telstra variants will be the last to get Nougat if the Z5 series Marshmallow update is anything to go by.

We should have a pool for how long it takes Telstra to release the update for the different models
