Samsung’s mid-range A-series phones are fairly popular in their own right and it appears a new 2017 series is about to be announced. The A series is getting teased by Samsung, and some renders and specs for the A5 have now shown up as well.

To start with, Samsung themselves are starting to tease the A series with Samsung Malaysia sharing a post on Twitter hinting at the possibility of a waterproofed series of phones.

Samsung has been waterproofing some of their higher end devices for a year or two now. The Galaxy S5 first kicked off the waterproofing trend with an IP67 rating, before Samsung removed it in the S6, only to return the IP68 rating on this years Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. A Galaxy A series phone with waterproofing would be welcome indeed.

So with waterproofing, the A series could be great, but what other specs will the A-Series have? Well, according to SlashLeaks, the Galaxy A5 (2017) could feature a 5.2″ FHD (1920×1080) display with an Octa-Core Exynos 7880 processor clocked at 1.9GHz with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (No mention of microSD card expansion). The A5 would come with a 16MP camera on both the front and rear and be powered by a 3000mAh battery, all bundled into a case measuring 7.8mm thick.

How does it look? Well, it’s unmistakably a Samsung phone based on the renders which show it off in Pink, Gold, Black and Blue:

There’s a 2699 Yuan price tag (about $540AUD) attached to the phone, but that will very likely change if/when the phone reaches our shores.

Samsung hasn’t really made much of a todo about their A-series phone launches previously, but with CES looming in just under a week we could see more about the Samsung Galaxy A (2017) series very soon.
