HMD Global, the company behind the new line of Nokia branded handsets had a good MWC announcing three handsets for the global market. A new leak now points to an even more powerful model, possibly the rumoured ‘Nokia 8’ running Qualcomms Snapdragon 835 SoC, launching in June.

According to PocketNow the handset will come in two screen sizes – Big and Small – with 4GB/6GB memory configurations. The phone will not come with Carl Zeiss lenses on the camera which will apparently have “at least” a 23MP sensor, and possibly come in dual-camera configuration.

Pricing wise, the handsets are rumoured to start at 4,000+ CNY ($766AUD) for the smaller model, while the larger screened version will start at 4,500+ CNY ($862AUD).

It’s a new age for Nokia mobile, and whether HMD can re-capture the nostalgic respect a lot of consumers have for the Nokia brand remains to be seen. We’ll see soon how these new breed of Nokia handsets fare in the market once the reviews start rolling in. HMD Global hasn’t yet announced Australian availability but we’re hoping to see them here soon.

Hopefully they can keep up the reliability and build quality that made them so popular in the first place.

Nostalgia is a seductive liar.

Aside from the huge reliance on nostalgia selling phones, I suspect they’ll be pretty solid phones.
