The Good Guys has accidentally leaked possible prices for the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus at $299 and $399 respectively, before the prices quickly disappeared from their website.
The product titles and photos seem to confirm that The Good Guys will be selling the Lunar Grey colour for both models. Hopefully the Blue Sapphire version also makes it to our shores here, or via a different retailer or carrier.
Both are listed as “not available”, so the date it you can purchase it is unknown, though this website listing suggests it will be within the next few weeks.
We’re not certain but it’s likely that the G5 Plus model stocked by The Good Guys will be 3GB RAM/32GB storage and you’ll have to buy the 4GB/64GB storage variant from Moto Australia (if it’s available at all).
We make this guess because with the previous Moto G4 Plus model, Australian retailers sold the 2GB RAM/16GB storage version and people who wanted the 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant had to purchase it directly from the Moto Australia website.
When announced recently at MWC the Moto G5 and G5 Plus midrange phones running stock Android with the well known small Moto customisations were the talk of the show amongst those not distracted by the new Nokia 3310 (2G only) model.
We are keenly awaiting an official Australian launch announcement so we can get our hands on review models to thoroughly test and report back to you about key features especially the cameras and battery life. Those of you reading Ausdroid closely will know that we already have a Moto G5 Plus to review … suggesting things might not be far away.

And What’s the go with holding back the higher storage models from retail?
Retailers often choose specific models they think will sell best
Also quite often different models & colours are sold through different retailers and online channels for a sense of “exclusivity”
Is there a cheaper Snapdragon 625 phone available locally? I don’t believe there is.

The 625 is effectively the same as the 617 used in the Moto G4, just built on 14nm instead of 28nm… And importing them is a real option, esp when imports can be had for much lower…Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro SE for example, it has a Snapdragon 650…Even the Sony Xperia X recently went for $399 in JB, and the camera on that phone is way better than the Moto… This price creep is now visible across all manufacturers though, Moto is hardly unique…HTC just released a Snapdragon 410 for $199, which was used in the $89 Huawei Y550… Read more »
Xiaomi phones don’t have LTE band 28 . Without that you won’t be able to get the best 4G speed in Australia

That pricing does sound about right (Going by oversea’s price). So not sure what all the hide-and-seek is about?
BTW: I do think this is one of the best value phones for 2017.
Very paranoid about buying another Moto device after my G3 got screwed on the update front (one major update from Lollipop to Marshmallow, rather than the 2 major updates previous Moto Gs got). Will probably wait for the Nokia Androids to be released before I make a decision.
