Buying a new Samsung usually comes with perks. If it isn’t the pre-order bonus of free Galaxy Buds that gets your engine going, perhaps its free YouTube Premium access.

Usually you’re paying $11.99 a month for YouTube Music Premium, or $14.99 for the full YouTube Premium experience. While new users can usually get a month for free, new Samsung Galaxy S10 users can get a whopping four months for free. That’s a saving of $60.

Why might Google be offering this special enticement, you ask? Well, undoubtedly it’s to try and increase their customer share in the smartphone space. Against streaming music services like Spotify (and Google’s own Play Music), YouTube really hasn’t quite caught on the same way, even though it has an enormous music library (and even more videos).

YouTube Premium offers quite a bit more than streaming music and videos, though. You get HDR10+ certified content on Samsung’s Dynamic AMOLED screen, as well as offline playback. It also offers an ad-free experience across your devices. This means no more annoying ads on your smartphone or any other device that signs into your account.

If you’re getting a different Samsung device these days, you’re still eligible for some goodness, just a bit less. All other Samsung devices activated before February 2020 will receive 2 months of free access.

It’s worth noting that this offer is good only for new users; if you’ve already subscribed to Google Play Music, YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium previously, you can’t take up this offer. Equally, if you’ve used a free trial in the past and not subscribed, you’re not eligible for this (which is another) free trial.

Best way to take advantage, then, for those who’ve already dabbled before is to simply sign up with a different account. I hear Google Accounts are pretty easy to create.
