Oppo has sent out an invite to the press for a launch event to be held on 24 April in Zurich, and although the tagline is a bit cheesy – “Beyond the obvious” – the event itself is to launch something that’s far from it.
The upcoming event is for Oppo’s new flagship phone dubbed “Reno”. Not only will this be a 5G handset, but it will also be the first to feature Oppo’s 10X zoom technology.
We saw this technology previewed at MWC 2019 earlier this year – like Huawei, Oppo’s zoom comprises a 5X optical zoom and 10X hybrid setup, and it works impressively well. The camera array is said to combine a 48-megapixel primary lens, 120-degree ultra wide angle lens and a telephoto as well.
Oppo is also expected to include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 top of the line processor in the Reno (given they are Qualcomm partners), an edge-to-edge OLED display and even a pop-up front-facing camera.
There may also be a lite version of the Reno announced, but that’s just rumour at this stage.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this launch event to see what Oppo’s been working on!
