Motorola has this afternoon announced two new devices for Australia, bringing the moto g7 and moto g7 plus here to bolster the company’s affordable handset range. The moto g7 line was announced just prior to MWC, and it’s now available here.

The moto g7 offers a 6.2-inch Full HD+ display with high-end performance for $399, while the slightly more premium moto g7 plus offers enhanced front and rear camera capabilities for $499.

Both models feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 63x series octa-core processors paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB on board storage. The moto g7 plus features 16 MP + 5 MP dual camera with OIS, promising picture-perfect results. The moto g7 has a slightly lesser 12MP / 5MP camera combo.

The new moto g7 handsets come with Android 9 Pie out of the box, and both have a 3,000 mAh battery which, Motorola assures us, will power the two handsets for a full day of use without issue.

The moto g7 plus and moto g7 are available for pre-order online through selected channels and in-store from Thursday, 11th April through Officeworks, The Good Guys and Mobileciti.

For full information and specifications, you can see the full specifications and features for the moto g7 here, and for the moto g7 plus here.

My G6 Plus is still as good as new and fastest most reliable mid ranger in the market. Not too much of an upgrade to the G7 series in my opinion besides the bigger “notched” displays.
My advice would be to wait and grab a G6 or G6 Plus on sale as they try to sell them off.
Should get the G6 Plus for less that $399 easily, maybe even under $350 if you’re lucky.

It’s kinda hard now to get the G6 Plus from Aussie retailers (Good Guys and Officeworks) as they have been a) running down their stock for a number of months now and b) apparently a lot of the stock they received was faulty in some way, I forget how. So chances of scoring one now may be slim. I doubt they will carry both the G6 and the G7 ongoing.

(something to do with the GPS chip playing up)

Wonder if we’ll get nfc? I think only the pro model has this?

The Australian specifications do state NFC is present in both the G7 and G7 Plus, so it should be there for our model variants.

The devices look okay on paper, maybe they could have done with slightly more powerful SoC’s for the money and USB-C, but overall decent hardware and with 4GB/64GB storage as standard on both.

Cheers

Scratch the above, they do have USB-C but at USB 2.0 speeds.

I’m actually impressed with Moto’s G series (bought a G6 Play recently). Sure, you don’t get monthly security updates like with Nokia, but it’s mostly stock Android with some very useful additions. And you can unlock the bootloader and root as well.

Adam

I was beginning to think we wouldn’t get these here. The Plus is the winner, might pick one up.

Actually scratch that I’ll still wait for the Z4, would prefer a front fingerprint still, even if a lesser in-screen one like it is rumoured to have
