Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S4 is one of the most powerful Android tablets available at the moment, and in 2019, it’s one of the few Android tablets still around. Fortunately for those who bought this tablet last year, it’s receiving an update to Android 9 Pie as we speak.
There were rumours that Samsung’s Galaxy S7 might also receive the update, but it appears it’s now quite unlikely to happen. After a massive rollout to Android Pie, covering a range of devices all the way back to Galaxy S8 and Note 8, it seems that rollout might be just about done.
At present, there are reports of the update to the Tab S4 rolling out in France, but we expect devces in other markets will be updated in coming days or weeks.
It will be interesting to see how OneUI on Android 9 goes on the Tab S4 – will it just be a scaled up version of what we saw on the Note range? Will Samsung introduce some unique tablet-exclusive features?
As for the Galaxy S7, it’s now three years old, and though still a capable handset, it doesn’t seem it’s in line for any updates.
A recent certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance had seemingly shown the Galaxy S7 running Android Pie firmware just days ago. However, since this listing was made, it’s been amended and the original filing removed completely. This glimmer of hope is now gone.
If you’re after an update beyond Android Oreo, and still hanging on to a Samsung Galaxy S7, it’s probably time to upgrade (though you will still receive quarterly security updates for a while).
