Huawei is wasting little time getting its consumer-facing 5G devices ready. It already has CPE devices ready to go for home broadband needs, but it’s 5G smartphones that are the real prize, and Huawei’s about to announce another one.
Overnight a hands-on video appeared showing off features of the Huawei Mate 20X 5G handset, giving us some details about the upcoming phone.
The Huawei Mate 20X was officially announced last year alongside the rest of the Mate 20 range, but the Mate 20X 5G didn’t become available right away, with Huawei confirming it’d come sometime this year instead.
It looks as if we might not be waiting too much longer, with information about the new 5G variant starting to leak out already.
Compared in the video alongside a standard Mate 20X 4G, there’s virtually no difference except for a fairly prominent 5G logo on the back. Inside, there’s a bit more difference between the two device – the Mate 20X 5G carries a smaller 4,200 mAh battery (presumably to make way for some of the 5G equipment). There is, however, support for 40W Super Charging, which will offset the small reduction in battery life.
Other key internals remain the same – the Kirin 980 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage standard. There’s also Huawei’s Balong 5000 5G modem, the same used in the Huawei Mate X, as well as some of Huawei’s CPE equipment.
