Buddy has announced that it will be closing its free mobile back-end service, called Parse on Buddy effective from 1 June 2019.
Parse is a development framework originally created by Facebook. After the project was discontinued there, it was picked up by various companies to continue hosting and development. Adelaide-based Buddy is one such company.
A Buddy spokesperson said that closure decision came because of the significant time and effort needed to make the service GDPR compliant.
Buddy advises that anyone using Parse on Buddy can migrate their data to another service, Back4App service, with which the company is working to migrate users. Back4App has a free service tier for development, but you’ll probably outgrow it if you’re doing anything at production scale.
Users can head over to the Parse on Buddy service to find out how to migrate their data to Back4App service before 1 June 2019.
Buddy will now focus on its Buddy OHM and Buddy Cloud services.
